We're back. After two wasted years, that's it. Most band members had personal stuff to take care of during this time, we met all together maybe twice between 2023 and 2024. Our violinist Arianna Bandieramonte left our hometown of Trieste and, even if she remains a dear friend and is and will always be part of the Aberdeen Rail Station family, the violinist position in the band is currently open. Anybody who would like to apply, please feel free to contact us.

Anyway, we're back. We kind of re-started from scratch, we're re-learning our own repertoire of songs, refreshing them with new arrangements, and we're talking about reprising some old Aberdeen Rail Station song that we never played with our latest line-up. Needless to say, the plans for an album have been put on hold. Just as it happened with a few Aberdeen Rail Station line-ups before, we recorded some music, but, being busy with our own jobs personal issues, we weren't able to complete working on the needed overdubs and yet the line-up that recorded that music doesn't exist anymore. In this particular case, we just lost one member, but for many months it was all of us who had not time for music and, well, time passed and now, honestly, we're in no condition to enter a studio and reprise that work. Maybe next year. And this not only because we need to focus on getting back to playing live (which will take several months, because each one of us have their jobs and their schedules and it's difficult to make a band's agenda and keep at it), but also because there's an anniversary coming: next year Aberdeen Rail Station will turn 25, there are plans about a couple of ways to celebrate it and our efforts will be put in them. Let's keep them under wraps momentarily: more details will be revealed in due time.

Siamo tornati. Dopo due anni persi. Per la maggior parte dei membri del gruppo ci sono state questioni di natura personale di cui prendersi cura e siamo riusciti ad incontrarci tutti assieme forse due volte tra il 2023 e il 2024. La violinista Arianna Bandieramonte ha lasciato Trieste, la nostra città e, anche se rimane una cara amica ed è e sarà sempre parte della famiglia Aberdeen Rail Station, attualmente la posizione di violinista nel gruppo è aperta. Se qualcuno dovesse essere interessato, per favore ci contatti.

Ad ogni modo, siamo tornati. Abbiamo sostanzialmente ricomnciato da zero, stiamo re-imparando il nostro repertorio di canzoni, rinfrescandole con arrangiamenti nuovi, e stiamo discutendo la possibilità di ripescare qualche vecchio brano che non avevamo mai suonato con l'ultima formazione. Inutile dire che i piani per un album sono attualmente sospesi: esattamente come capitato con altre formazioni degli Aberdeen Rail Station in passato, abbiamo registrato della musica, ma, essendo occupati ognuno con il suo lavoro e le sue questioni personali, non siamo stati in grado di completare i necessari overdub prima che la formazione che aveva effettuato le registrazioni cessasse di esistere. Nel caso specifico, abbiamo perso solo una componente, ma per molti mesi siamo stati tutti impegnati in altro, sicché il tempo è trascorso ed attualmente, ad essere onesti, non siamo in condizione di entrare in uno studio e completare quel lavoro. Forse l'anno prossimo. E questo non solo perché abbiamo bisogno di concentrarci sull'obiettivo di tornare a suonare dal vivo, (cosa che richiederà alcuni mesi, perché ognuno ha i suoi lavori e i suoi impegni ed è difficile crearci un'agenda e rispettarla), ma anche perché c'è un anniversario che si avvicina: il venticinquestimo, in arrivo il prossimo anno. Ci sono progetti riguardo a un paio di modi per celebrarlo e i nostri sforzi saranno diretti a questi. Maggiori dettagli verranno rivelati a tempo debito.

After a winter break that was never in our plans, we are now in talks for a few live dates for this spring and summer, so stay in touch and check our gigs section. During the forced break from gigging, we started gathering all the recorded stuff we have and made some rough mixes. An album is still in the plans, perhaps including studio sessions, live performances and also some open air courtyard recordings.

Dopo una pausa invernale che non era stata pianificata, stiamo pendendo corsi per alcuni concerti per questa primavera e quest'estate, quindi non perdete di vista la sezione gigs di questo sito. Durante pausa forzata abbiamo iniziato a raccogliere tutto il materiale registrato che avevamo e abbiamo realizzato qualche rough mix. Un album è ancora nei piani, forse costituito da registrazioni fatte sia in studio che in concerto che all'aperto nel nostro cortile.

A year has now passed since Arianna Bandieramonte and Nicolò Bernes joined the band, completing the current line-up. We now perform live on a regular basis, the highlight of this summer being a concert in piazza Ponterosso (Trieste) hosted by Bar Caffetteria James Joyce. We also have started a kind of partnership with RaRo Caffè Bistrot, with whom we're working on a series of shared gigs, each with a different guest artist. Meanwhile, we made our first studio session, that marked the start of the recording of an album, a task we're expected to complete during this autumn or early winter, most likely adding some percussion to the sound once again, at least on some songs.  Meanwhile, we keep expanding our repertoire of songs, and keep recording our live performances, so at some point next year we'll have both a studio and a live album out. One project has been postponed to the next year: it is the open-air recording session. We couldn't be all together when the climate was right, now the crickets still sing, but the nights are too fresh and windy already. The violin doesn't sound good and the wind blows in the microphones, so it's going to be something for next summer.

Un anno è trascorso da quando Arianna Bandieramonte e Nicolò Bernes si sono uniti al gruppo, completando la nostra formazione attuale. Ora suoniamo dal vivo regolarmente e il momento migliore dell'estate è stato un concerto in piazza Ponterosso a Trieste, ospitato dal Bar Caffetteria James Joyce. Abbiamo anche dato vita a una sorta di partnership con il RaRo Caffè Bistrot, con cui stiamo lavorando a una serie di concerti condivisi, ognuno con un differente artista ospite. Nel frattempo, abbiamo fatto la nostra prima studio session, che ha segnato l'inizio delle registrazioni di un album, un lavoro che ci aspettiamo di completare durante l'autunno o la prima parte dell'inverno, probabilmente con una nuova aggiunta di percussioni, almeno in qualche brano. Nel frattempo, continuiamo ad espandere il nostro repertorio di canzoni e continuiamo a registrare i nostri concerti, quindi a un certo punto il prossimo anno avremo sia un album da studio che uno dal vivo. Un progetto è stato rinviato al prossimo anno: le registrazioni l'aria aperta. Non siamo riusciti ad essere tutti presenti quando il clima era quello giusto: adesso i grilli cantano ancora, ma le serate sono troppo fresche e già ventilate. Il violino così non suona bene e il vento soffia nei microfoni, quindi è qualcosa che faremo la prossima estate.

We played and recorded three gigs last month. After the second one, percussionist Marco Vattovani quit the band, on the most amicable terms. We wish him the best. At the moment we're not replacing him: the matter has yet to be discussed by the band, but there's a chance we decide to keep the line-up as it is, considering that very few Aberdeen Rail Station line-ups have included drums or percussion in over two decades, so it's supposed to work without them as well. Plans for the upcoming summer are: keep gigging on a regular basis, but not too often, because we have a repertoire to improve, so we need time for rehearsals; keep recording the gigs, because a live album is in the plans, most likely for next winter, and the more material is recorded, the better; make an album out of our courtyard open air rehearsal sessions. Last year, while recording our open-air rehearsals, we realized that they sounded amazing, with all the ambience rumours (the crickets, the faraway dogs or the occasional truck in the distance) giving something special to the final result. At the time, we had no violin or cello, Morgana had just rejoined the band after some years and the rest of the group hadn't had the chance to play together in months, because of the covid restrinctions. So there was no way to record a proper album before the end of the summer (although our "4-track demo 2021" was partially recorded open-air) and we're making it this year. So stay tuned.

Abbiamo tenuto e registrato tre concerti il mese scorso. Dopo il secondo, il percussionista marco Vattovani ha lasciato il gruppo, in termini assolutamente amichevoli. Gli auguriamo il meglio. Al momento non è stato rimpiazzato: l'argomento deve ancora essere discusso dalla band, ma c'è una possibilità che decidiamo di mantenere la formazione così com'è, considerato che ben poche versioni dell'Aberdeen Rail Station hanno incluso batteria o percussioni in più di vent'anni e quindi si suppone che il tutto possa funzionare anche senza. I piani per l'estate sono: continuare con regolare concerti, ma non troppo frequenti, perché abbiamo necessità di allargare il repertorio e quindi abbiamo bisogno di tempo per provare; continuare a registrare i concerti, perché un album live è nei piani, probabilmente per l'inverno, e più materiale viene registrato, meglio è; registrare un album durante le nostre sessioni di lavoro all'aperto, in cortile. L'anno scorso, quando registravamo le nostre prove all'aperto, ci eravamo resi conto che suonavano benissimo, con tutti i rumori ambientali (i grilli, i cani lontani, l'occasionale camion nella distanza) che aggiungevano qualcosa di speciale al risultato finale. Al tempo non avevamo violino e violoncello, Morgana si era appena riunita al gruppo dopo alcuni anni e il resto di noi non aveva avuto la possibilità di suonare assieme per mesi, a causa delle restrizioni per covid. Quindi non c'era alcuna possibilità di registrare un vero e proprio album entro la fine dell'estate (anche se il nostro "4-track demo 2021" è stato parzialmente registrato all'aperto).
